The Last D-Day Widow

Peggy Harris at Normandy

The video below tells a moving story that combines heroic sacrifice, abiding devotion, bureaucratic incompetence and the D-Day landings.  The story was reported by CBS's Sunday Morning.  Please note that Charles Osgood attributes the term "Longest Day" to author Cornelius Ryan based on his eponymous book (http:/www.amzn.com/0671890913).  Ryan was quoting Field Marshall Erwin Rommel who coined the term "Longest day" -- "der langste tag"-- to describe the first day of an allied assault against Hitler's Atlantic wall.
